The cozy bar and waterfront views of Morro Rock make it the perfect spot to relax. With happy hour from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Monday through Friday, bar only) and daily specials, it’s a great spot to unwind.
I’ve always enjoyed the friendly service and laid-back atmosphere, and if you’re lucky, you might even snag a spot on the patio to catch a stunning sunset.
The Great American Fish Company
The Great American Fish Company has long been a Morro Bay favorite, boasting stunning harbor views, mesquite-grilled seafood, and a casual, family-friendly atmosphere.
While its legacy stretches over 30 years and plenty of visitors rave about the flavorful oysters and fresh seafood, the reviews suggest it’s a bit of a hit-or-miss experience.
With that in mind, I’m curious to try it for myself soon—whether for a quick nibble, a drink with a view, or a full seafood spread. Who knows, I might just discover what keeps this place a local classic!
Giovanni’s Fish Market & Galley
With over 30 years of family ownership, this iconic spot on the waterfront offers a wide variety of dishes, from their famous fish and chips to award-winning clam chowder. Known for its laid-back, outdoor dining with views of Morro Rock, Giovanni’s is a staple for locals and tourists alike.
Whether you’re digging into a sourdough bread bowl filled with clam chowder or savoring smoky BBQ oysters, you’re in for a treat. As someone who’s always on the lookout for great oysters, I can say their BBQ oysters are a standout—perfectly cooked with just the right amount of char.
The fish dishes, especially the fish and chips, are always fresh and perfectly seasoned. And while the line can get long during peak hours, the delicious food and warm, welcoming service make it worth the wait!
Tognazzini’s Dockside & Dockside Too Fish Market
Nestled along Morro Bay’s historic Embarcadero, Tognazzini’s Dockside Restaurant and Dockside Too Fish Market offer the quintessential coastal dining experience.

Rose’s Landing Bar & Grill
Rose’s Landing Bar & Grill in Morro Bay is one of my go-to spots to unwind. I love grabbing a couple of drinks at the bar, soaking in the stunning view of Morro Rock, and enjoying some appetizers while watching the sunset.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with locals and visitors alike chatting away, making it a great place to socialize. I usually opt for their seafood dishes or tacos—simple, satisfying, and perfect for a casual meal.

Kicker’s is Morro Bay’s ambitious new seafood spot, combining fresh, local seafood with bay views and a laid-back vibe. It offers a broad menu, from clam chowder and lobster rolls to a raw oyster bar, alongside craft beers and cocktails. With live music on some nights and a pet-friendly atmosphere, it’s striving to carve out its niche in this coastal town.
Reviews have been mixed—some rave about the clam chowder and attentive service, while others note room for improvement. Whether you’re drawn by the fresh seafood or the stunning bay views, it’s an intriguing new addition to Morro Bay’s dining scene.
Harbor Hut & Li’L Hut
When I was in Morro Bay, I decided to skip the Harbor Hut after reading mixed reviews about the food and vibe—though I’ll admit, the waterfront location and views of Morro Rock looked incredible. Instead, I gave their casual sister spot, Li’L Hut, a try.
It’s perfect for grabbing something quick, with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the salty breeze and views of the bay. I went for the fish tacos and garlic fries, and while the food was solid, I wouldn’t call it a standout. The tacos had fresh, flaky fish, but the garlic fries were just okay.
If you’re craving a fast bite by the water, Li’L Hut is a convenient option, but for something truly memorable, I’d recommend exploring other local favorites in the area for a meal by the water.

Paired with the stunning view of Morro Rock, it’s the perfect spot for an elegant yet relaxed dining experience. Though service can be slow during peak times, the exceptional food and ambiance make every visit worthwhile. For an authentic taste of Morro Bay, The Galley is the place to be!
Windows on the Water
Windows on the Water offers a dining experience as stunning as its panoramic bay views, making it the perfect setting for a romantic date night or a special celebration.
With its fresh, locally-sourced menu and award-winning dishes, it’s earned a reputation as one of Morro Bay’s most elegant spots. While the ambiance and service consistently shine, reviews hint at occasional hiccups like salty seasoning or pricey dishes.
Still, diners rave about highlights like the sand dabs, scallops, and that unforgettable sunset over “The Rock.” I haven’t been yet, but this mix of coastal charm, fine dining, and breathtaking views has me ready to plan a visit!

Planning a kayaking adventure with Kayak Shack? Build your appetite, then swing by Bayside Café—it’s just across the way—for a bowl of that legendary chowder. Totally worth it!
The Dorn’s Breakers Café
About 75 years ago, Harry Amsel bought a little café in Morro Bay with killer views of Morro Rock. His daughter Nancy and her husband, Dan Dorn, turned it into what we now know as Dorn’s Breakers Café. Today, their son Chris runs the place—and also owns Mersea’s in Avila Beach, which is hands down one of my favorite spots with unreal views.
I can’t get enough of Dorn’s, especially their New England-style chowder (it’s honestly the best in town). The menu has everything from pancakes to seafood jambalaya, plus burgers, steaks, and plenty of omelets. And the best part? They’re open 7 days a week—serving breakfast from 7am to 1pm, lunch from 11am to 4pm, and dinner from 4pm to 9pm. It’s still one of the best spots in Morro Bay.

And don’t forget to grab a cold beer to complete the laid-back vibe. Open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM, it’s the perfect place for fresh, hearty eats with a side of coastal charm.
Hofbrau
When I visited Hofbrau, I wasn’t just looking for a meal—I was chasing a bit of local history paired with incredible waterfront views. This spot has been serving hand-carved sandwiches for over 48 years, with roast beef carved fresh daily, and a view of Morro Rock that’s hard to beat.
I had to try their signature French Dip, piled high with roast beef and served with a rich au jus. The sandwich didn’t disappoint—it was juicy, flavorful, and massive. I also grabbed a side of zucchini fries, which added a nice crunch to the meal. While the decor leans a bit old-school, the vibe was cozy, the service quick, and the patio offered the perfect place to soak in the bay views and watch the boats pass by.
